Will content creators roll over and let advertisers make all the money?

I have seen this apparently unstoppable trend where artists are so eager to let their creations see the light of day that they are willing to let their art be seen/heard/enjoyed for free or for a very small percentage of someone else's advertising revenue stream ... What do you think? is this a smart thing to do? On principle, I say no .. but that's just me ... I would like to see artists sell the creations for real money
